Operation Uplift Receives Champion Grant
Oak Park, IL, January 30, 2012 … Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest is pleased to announce that Operation Uplift is the recipient of Community Bank’s Champion Grant. The purpose of the Champion Grant is to assist organizations in providing community outreach programs for low or moderate income individuals.
Operation Uplift was founded in 1968 and has served more than 20,000 low to moderate income individuals and families throughout Proviso Township. Located in Maywood, IL, Operation Uplift networks with other agencies to provide services such as job readiness training, literacy and G.E.D. studies, computer training, and employment referral assistance. They also operate The West Town Museum of Cultural History located at 104 South 5th Avenue, Maywood, IL. The Museum was established in 1995 with the express purpose of researching, designing, exhibiting and re-echoing the heritage of Chicago's West Suburban community. A grant in the amount of $500 was presented to Northica H. Stone, President and CEO of Operation Uplift, on Wednesday, January 25. Bernard D. Headley II, Community Lending Specialist for Community Bank, presented the grant. In addition to the grant, Community Bank will be partnering with Operation Uplift to present a seminar on Wednesday, February 29, providing details and information about the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s “Welcome Home Heroes” mortgage financing program. The program focuses on providing financial assistance to all qualified first-time homebuyers who are veterans, reservists, military personnel and members of the Illinois National Guard.
Through the Champion Grant, Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest encourages growth and support in economically challenged communities. Champion Grants will be awarded to qualifying organizations throughout the year. The Champion Grant application is available on the Community Bank website at www.cboprf.com.
