Columbus Park Food Pantry Receives Champion Grant

Oak Park, IL, May 6, 2011 … Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest is pleased to announce that Columbus Park Food Pantry is the recipient of Community Bank’s Champion Grant. The purpose of the Champion Grant is to assist organizations in providing community outreach programs for low or moderate income individuals.

The Columbus Park Food Pantry, located at 5701 W. Jackson, Chicago, is open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and serves the Austin neighborhood.  Marjorie Cobbs, Director and Founder, opened the organization 17 years ago.  The Columbus Park Food Pantry is one of the many satellite sites for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing services for low income individuals. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 678,000 adults and children in Cook County every year.  For more information about the Columbus Park Food Pantry and the Greater Chicago Food Depository, visit or call (773) 247-3663.

A grant in the amount of $300 was presented to Marjorie Cobbs on Friday, May 6.  Bernard D. Headley II, Community Lending Specialist for Community Bank, presented the grant.  Through the Champion Grant, Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest encourages growth and support in economically challenged communities.  Champion Grants will be awarded to qualifying organizations throughout the year.  The Champion Grant application is available on the Community Bank website at   

During its fourteen year history, Community Bank has undertaken the sponsorship of many community-wide events and has donated over $2 million to various local civic and charitable organizations. Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest was organized in 1996 as a locally owned bank focused on creating financial solutions for individuals, professionals, owners of closely-held businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park communities. Community Bank, which had assets of $351 million as of December 31, 2010, has two locations: 1001 Lake Street, Oak Park and 7777 Lake Street, River Forest.
