Because I Care, Inc. Receives Champion Grant

Oak Park, IL, August 23, 2013 … Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest is pleased to announce that Because I Care, Inc. is the recipient of Community Bank’s Champion Grant. The purpose of the Champion Grant is to assist organizations in providing community outreach programs for low or moderate income individuals. 

Because I Care, Inc. is a nonprofit resource center located in Austin on the Westside of Chicago.  Because I Care serves at-risk youth in need of educational and social service assistance by providing mentoring and tutoring services, computer literacy training, after school and summer school care, and college and job readiness programs.  Since their inception, Because I Care has helped at-risk youth reach their full academic potential resulting in a 98% improvement in social behavior, 95% increase in literacy and mathematical abilities, and a 54% increase in technology readiness.  More information about Because I Care, Inc. is available on their website at www.becauseicareinc.com.

A grant in the amount of $500 was presented to James Spearman, President and CEO of Because I Care, on Friday, August 16.  Bernard D. Headley II, Community Lending Specialist for Community Bank, presented the grant.  Because I Care, Inc. will use the Champion Grant to extend their academic enriched mentoring program with the objective of supporting at risk youth between the ages of 6-16 in order to augment their learning and reading skills.  Specifically, the grant will be used for purchasing textbooks and software for their computer lab.  The mentoring program serves hundreds of youth in the Austin Community.
